artist statement
A penny symbolizes many things. From superstition to wealth, pennies bring luck and prosperity. Every penny in the room is heads-up; showcasing that no penny is bad luck and a penny saved is a penny earned. In preparation for this installation, friends, family, strangers donated pennies. Collecting trash at the same time, I found a much better response to collecting pennies than that of garbage; witnessing the deterioration of the penny. The decline of the penny and fall of capitalism resonates throughout the room. Waste, over-consumption, and the squandering of our depleted system is what drove to create this piece.

Q: Where do you see yourself in the art scene today?
A: Like any struggling/working artist, I'm just trying to get out there and involved in my art community.
Q: What’s your inspiration?
A: The inspiration for this piece was the aesthetically appealing quality copper has as well as our current economical conditions in the US. I find inspiration in nature and organic forms, such as humans.
Q: What are your biggest challenges?
A: Conveying what I want the piece to convey is probably to biggest challenge any artist has. Also, my photography skills are lacking so my dear friend Alessandro Di Sciascio (http://manymanymoments.com/) took this lovely photograph during Showtel, a one night only hotel exhibition.
Q: How did you choose your medium?
A: I find the aesthetic quality of copper to be breath taking. I originally created a nine foot stack of pennies which i found very beautiful in its minimalistic linear composition.
Q: Which atist has influenced you the most?
A: Carolyn Sickles, Louise Bourgeois, Norberto Rodriguez, Egon Schiele, Eva Hess, Ryan Toth.
